A lot of important celebrities including Justin Bieber, Gwyneth Paltrow, Snoop Dogg, and Ashton Kutcher along with A-list celebrities, they’re among more than 60 new investors in fintech startup MoonPay.

More important celebrities invest in MoonPay

More celebrity investors include the Chainsmokers, Drake, Eva Longoria, Jason Derulo, Kate Hudson, Paris Hilton, Matthew McConaughey, Mindy Kaling, Questlove, and Shawn Mendes, among others.

The new investors are contributing a collective $87 million to a previously announced $555 million funding round led by Tiger Global and Coatue, valuing MoonPay at $3.4 billion.

Founded in 2018, the Miami-based company’s software lets users buy and sell cryptos using conventional payment methods like credit cards, bank transfers, or mobile wallets, such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.

MoonPay also sells its technology to other businesses including crypto website Bitcoin.com and non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace OpenSea, a model CEO Ivan Soto-Wright calls “crypto-as-a-service.”

The UK government is experimenting with digital collectibles as it strives to turn its economy into a global crypto asset hub.

In a speech which was delivered at the Innovate Finance Global Summit, the UK’s economic secretary to the treasury John Glen explained among others that the nation’s coin supplier has been instructed to create a non-fungible token (NFT).

“The Chancellor has asked the Royal Mint to create a non-fungible token – an NFT… to be issued by the Summer, an emblem of the forward-looking approach we are determined to take.”

Glen also said that the UK’s goal is to embrace blockchain technology early in order to get a head start.
