If you’re interested in knowing the secrets wrapped up in a burrito that makes stars swoon, make your way to Marfa, TX.

A delicious live-work opportunity is now available in the artsy West Texas town: Marfa Burrito, on the market for $670,000.

“This woman, Ramona Tejada, kind of just built the whole thing herself. She had the adobe house that was a residential place, and then she decided that she was going to make and sell burritos, so she added on and added on,” explains listing agent Ofelia McDonald, with Pauly Presley Realty.

Today, the adobe house has four bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms near the restaurant building, which features a professional kitchen, dining room, and outdoor patio.

“The adobe building is really incredible and is kind of dated, but is kind of funky,” McDonald says. “The outdoor space is really cool.”

The restaurant on a large corner lot in the middle of Marfa has been a hit since Tejada opened it in the 1990s, and it’s since attracted a star clientele.

“It’s a super Instragramable location, and lots of famous people go there. Anthony Bourdain kind of became a friend of hers, and Matthew McConaughey always goes there.”

Tejada makes everything herself during breakfast and lunch service, but she’s ready to retire.

“She’s willing to stay there with her people and kind of train the new guard, and teach them how she makes her food and what she does,” McDonald says. “She’s hoping that’s what will happen. You could be your own burrito king or queen if you want.”

The property is zoned for residential and commercial use, so a buyer could opt out of the burrito game and try something entirely new.

“There are a lot of developers who want to build,” McDonald says. “There’s a lot you could do: a brewery, another kind of restaurant. You could do a bar. There’s just so many things out there.”

McDonald says locals and burrito aficionados don’t want to see Tejada go.

“When I’ve been anywhere in Marfa, people are like, ‘No, no, she can’t sell.’ When you go in, she is always the person that is hugging you and remembers you. Everybody just kind of wants to be there,” she adds.

As for the perfect buyer, McDonald says she sees a young person with a creative background who wants to invest in Marfa. Having an interest in Mexican food wouldn’t hurt, either.

“It’s going to be someone who totally gets Marfa and who knows that the long-term investment is going to have a great return.”
