  • The bitcoin giveaway’s amount will be determined by the time the ad is running.
  • The commercial for FTX will run during the second half of the game.

Super Bowl LVI kicks off on February 13th, and FTX, the cryptocurrency exchange founded by Sam Bankman-Fried, is giving away free bitcoins as part of its marketing campaign.

The bitcoin giveaway’s amount will be determined by the time the ad is running, so there is an element of surprise to the promotion. Suppose it airs at 9:02 p.m., then the exchange promises to give away 9.02 bitcoins. That’s worth around $45,214.86 as of Tuesday.

Participants must follow the FTX Twitter account and retweet the pinned tweet when it airs and until 11:59 p.m. ET to be eligible for the drawing. The only requirement is that one must be a legal US resident to take part (except for New York).

There will be four winners, each of whom will be required to establish an FTX.US account to collect their reward, but they do not have to do so to participate. The winners will be notified via direct message on Twitter. The commercial for FTX will run during the second half of the game, although no specific timing was given. In October 2021, Bankman-Fried initially announced his company’s ad buy.

Several other crypto companies have also decided to run ads during the big game. WSJ reports that Coinbase, the biggest crypto exchange in the US, and BitBuy, the largest crypto exchange in Canada, will both be advertising spots.

The winners of the National Football Conference, the Los Angeles Rams, will face the champions of the American Football Conference, the Cincinnati Bengals, in Super Bowl LVI. The 2021 championship game drew 91 million viewers, making it the year’s most-watched sporting event.
