As a parent company of Bluehole, producer of the massively popular PUBG game, Krafton is shifting its focus to the area of metaverse and NFT projects, where it hopes to compete. Xbyblue and Seoul Auction Blue, two startups valued at a combined $4.1 million, were announced as acquisitions by the firm on February 8th.

It is a joint venture between Seoul Auction Blue and Xbyblue, which employs technology to safeguard and curate digital art IP for the digital market. If you’ve ever wanted a PUBG Battlegrounds avatar or other merchandise based on the game, you can now get them thanks to Krafton’s partnership with these two firms.

The CEO of Krafton, CH Kim, said:

Through partnerships with innovative companies like Seoul [Auction] Blue, we’re confident we can combine our research and our partner’s expertise to offer new experiences that global users will find fun and engaging.

It also announced a partnership with Naver Z, a hybrid Web3 and NFT-based platform development is in the pipeline. For the last four years, Naver Z has owned Zepeto, a platform that allows gamers to converse with 3D avatars utilizing augmented reality technology. Naver Z’s technology and platform will be used to develop the still-unnamed metaverse experience, while Krafton’s expertise will be used to craft the assets of this world.

According to the announcement, users will upload their own content to the platform in the near future. Krafton is the latest to contemplate incorporating NFTs and the metaverse notion into their business models in a sea of AAA conventional gaming businesses.
