The former Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith has handed off his McLean, VA, mansion.
Shortly before retiring from the NFL in August, the signal caller opted to place the Northern Virginia abode on the market.
The property was initially listed in June 2021 for $6.75 million. But with no takers, the asking price was dropped to $6.25 million in September. That lower amount eventually attracted a buyer, and the home sold earlier this month for $5.8 million.
Even with the price reduction, Smith comes out ahead. The three-time Pro Bowler purchased the brand-new build in 2018 for $3,895,000.
A winning home
Set on 2 acres, the prime real estate offers tree views and backs up to parkland, according to the listing.
Designed by the “award-winning” Brush Arbor and W.C. Ralston Architects, with a roomy floor plan, it features five bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, and 6,340 square feet.
High-end details include floor-to-ceiling windows, Waterworks fixtures, designer lighting, and stonework. The open floor plan flows to the chef’s kitchen, a large living area, and a formal dining room with ample space for large-scale entertaining.
The primary suite, on the main floor, offers custom cabinetry, built-ins, and a luxurious bathroom. The home includes an upper-level balcony and a family entertainment room, perfect for a study or home office.
Outside, the grounds boast a pool, multiple patios, sitting areas, and a fireplace.
After the most recent price cut, the upscale, contemporary mansion “was in high demand—due to its location on the ‘Gold Coast’ of McLean, bordering the Potomac River,” says the listing agent, Mark McFadden.
In August, Smith, 37, retired from the NFL after 16 seasons. The QB played for the San Francisco 49ers, the Kansas City Chiefs, and finished his career with Washington. He’s currently an ESPN analyst.
The California native and his family have returned to Woodside, CA. The former player and his wife, Elizabeth, picked up a brand-new build in the ritzy San Francisco Bay Area town in 2015, for $4.65 million.
