The mass adoption of Bitcoin and digital assets continues. Now, it’s been just revealed that Mexico’s Grupo Elektra will accept BTC as payment for purchases. This is the latest retailer in Latin America to embrace crypto.
It’s been revealed that Elektra, a supermarket and banking chain that belongs to conglomerate Grupo Salinas, offers a 20% discount on purchases with BTC, according to an online ad that has been shared on Twitter by Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego.
“The rumors are true. Elektra is the first (retail) store in Mexico that allows you to buy with bitcoin,” Salinas said in a tweet. “I’m very sorry to beat the competition again.”
Purchases will go via BitPay, a U.S.-based bitcoin payment service provider. According to the latest reports from press agency Reuters, a spokesperson for Grupo Salinas had no immediate comment.
Salinas who is one of Mexico’s richest people, is the owner of the Banco Azteca banking business, and in June said he was working to it the first bank in Mexico to accept the king coin.

According to the reports coming from the online publication the Daily Hodl, the important crypto analyst Michaël van de Poppe is suggesting the bottom is in on three popular cryptos.

The analyst believes the current market structure is nearly identical to BTC’s pattern during the September correction.
“Pretty much copy/paste of the September bottoming here. Given the low impact of the Fed meeting on prices, I assume that we’ll see price accelerate too if it cracks crucial resistances.”
At the moment of writing this article, BTC is trading in the red and the king coin is priced just above $46k.
