A recent survey by Capterra revealed that there is concern in Italy that cryptocurrencies could be used for illegal activities.

The survey on cryptocurrencies in Italy

The survey was conducted on a sample of 1,000 Italians aged 18 or over who know or are familiar with cryptocurrencies, and the result is that 54% say they are moderately or very concerned about this risk.

But despite this, 30% say they consider cryptocurrencies to be their ideal default currency in the next 5 years.

For the same question asked in other countries, the results were diametrically opposed: in Great Britain (40%), France (39%) and Germany (39%) this question saw the old fiat currency triumph.

Capterra also found a positive trend whereby 62% of Italians surveyed expressed an intention to use cryptocurrencies in the future.

The results of this survey therefore seem to be mixed, with a strong inclination to consider cryptocurrencies as everyday tools, but also concerns about their possible criminal use.

Optimism and concern

In addition, optimism towards deregulated currencies seems to be waning, as more than half of Italians surveyed believe the crypto market should be regulated. Only 24% would oppose such a measure.

One of the main reasons for concern is the volatility of the value of cryptocurrencies: 37% of respondents were sceptical about cryptocurrencies because of the strong price fluctuations. In addition, 49% believe that there is not enough information about them.

Interestingly, however, concerns about CBDCs are even greater, with 62% of Italians saying they are worried about the possible use of digital currencies by central banks.
