On April 15, Opera released a beta version of its Web3 browser that comes with a built-in crypto wallet for iOS devices including iPad and iPhone. Previously, Opera’s Crypto Browser was available for Windows desktop and Mac users, and Android mobile users since January.
The mobile release is believed to be the latest step in its Crypto Browser Project, which is a Web3-focused initiative for facilitating navigation across decentralized applications (DApp), games, and various metaverse platforms.
Although mobile Android users have managed to access the browser for the last several months, more than a billion Apple users can now download it through the App Store.
Based on the company’s statement, the main features include the Opera Wallet with some support for the Polygon, Ethereum, and Celo ecosystems to purchase, sell, and transfer tokens. Notably, the users can also restore any available Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible Wallet with the native Opera Wallet and combine their current assets and balances.
On the browser’s homepage, the users can see the latest top NFT sales and a clear news aggregator known as ‘Crypto Corner,’ with live updates about cryptocurrency asset prices and gas fees, and airdrops together with suggested educational resources.
The firm also stated that the browser comes with crypto mining protection that blocks “cryptojacking” scripts, which may readily compromise the performance of an iPad or iPhone device. The other security features comprise a native ad and tracker blocker, pop-up blocker, and an intuitive Cookie Dialogue Blocker.
Based on Jorgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera, the Crypto Browser is going for the growing interest in Web3 from the veteran crypto users and newcomers.
“The Opera Crypto Browser Project was built to simplify the Web3 user experience that has often been bewildering for mainstream users. Opera believes Web3 has to be easy to use in order to reach its full potential and mass adoption.”
Furthermore, the browser firm added total support for 8 major blockchain ecosystems that include Ronin, Celo, Nervos Network, Bitcoin, Solana, IXO, StarkEx, and Polygon. Opera confirmed that it wants to integrate more Proof-of-Stake chains in the future.
Recently, Opera joined hands with Yat, a platform that supports the development of emoji-based web addresses and URLs. In that context, the “emojification” of Opera enables users to surf the web across its platform by keying in certified Yats or a string of emojis into the URL bar instead of the normal words or letters.
