Fedorov made a call to Elon Musk, the Tesla CEO and a known Dogecoin supporter, and Billy Markus, the creator of the memecoin. Markus answered with the following to the announcement, and join the call for DOGE holders to contribute:
Sent some. Dogecoin folks aren’t usually rich and dogecoin itself is generally used for small transactions, but we are a caring and passionate bunch those who want to help will offer what they can – i hope the country can heal and rebuild stronger after all of this.
Markus was also informed of over 260 donations valued at 66,000 DOGE, at the time of the announcement. The highest donation with this cryptocurrency was valued at 115,000 Dogecoin.
As Bitcoinist reported yesterday, the crypto community has poured millions into the Ukrainian cause. Different crypto-powered initiatives have rallied behind the country to funnel donations.
In Bitcoin and Ethereum alone, as reported by Coincenter’s Executive Director Jerry Brito, there are over $15 million. The founder of Polkadot Gavin Wood personally donated $5 million after Ukraine posted a DOT address.
In addition, decentralized exchange Uniswap deployed a solution to help transform any token donations to Ethereum (ETH). About this feature, Fedorov said:
The people of Ukraine are grateful to Uniswap for their new “donate to Ukraine” feature which automatically exchanges any of their listed tokens to ETH for us.
DOGE And Crypto Donors To Receive Reward?
DOGE is just the latest addition to a list of crypto donations that surpassed the contributions of international bodies, such as the United Nations. Per a report from the Vanguard, the U.N. released $20 million for humanitarian support.
Crypto donations, as reported, have been used to purchase critical items for the war efforts including military equipment, medical supplies, food, and others. Unlike traditional donations, cryptocurrencies can be almost instantly spent and can be sent from any user around the globe.
Fedorov also acknowledged the collective effort made by the crypto community. Via Twitter he shared the following message:
The people of Ukraine are grateful for the support and donations from the global crypto community as we protect our freedom (…). This will certainly contribute to the Ukrainian victory as well as support civil people. We will win — the best people with us.
In order to reward donors, Ukraine announced an airdrop. However, no major details have been shared about this initiative resulting in a lot of speculation and mistrust from a portion of the crypto community. Further details about the airdrop will be shared by Fedorov himself.
