Mozilla, creator of the Firefox browser, has suspended crypto donations in less than a week after its own announcement. The creator of Dogecoin, Billy Marcus, criticized Mozilla for its decision.
Mozilla suspends crypto donations and Dogecoin creator doesn’t like it
On 31 December 2021, Mozilla shared its partnership with BitPay to create the Mozilla Foundation and accept donations in crypto: Dogecoin (DOGE), Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).
“Dabble in Dogecoin? HODLing some Bitcoin & Ethereum? We’re using BitPay to accept donations in cryptocurrency”.
In less than a week, on Twitter came the decision by the Mozilla Foundation itself to back down due to a discussion that had arisen about the environmental impact of cryptocurrencies.
But Billy Marcus, creator of Dogecoin, doesn’t stand by it and responds to Mozilla as follows:
“Thank you for succumbing to an ignorant, reactionary internet mob. Wait till them guys hear about the environmental cost of paper dollars and the entire banking infrastructure, I am sure they will have the same level of meltdown about their own constant environmental impact”.
Mozilla’s ideas on the environment
The motive behind Mozilla’s decision to put its crypto donation service on hiatus in less than a week may be a post published by Jamie Zawinski, one of Mozilla’s co-founders.
Regarding crypto, Zawinski writes as follows:
“The cryptocurrency industry, whose business model would seem unrealistic and ham-handed if it was a villain on Captain Planet: they manufacture only POLLUTION, nothing else, and they turn that into money. They call it a “currency” but the only thing you can do with it is pay ransom after your computer was hacked! You can’t even use it to buy porn! And make no mistake, if you can’t use a thing to buy porn, that thing is not a currency. Cryptocurrencies are Itchy & Scratchy Money”.
This is who the comment by Billy Marcus of Dogecoin refers to.
Elon Musk and Tesla’s merch payable in DOGE
Speaking of Dogecoin, a few hours ago, the world’s richest man and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, the infamous Elon Musk tweeted again in favour of his favourite meme coin.
“Tesla merch buyable with Dogecoin”.
A reminder to all his 70 million followers of what was already stated in the middle of last December 2021, namely that Tesla’s merch is purchasable with DOGE.
On that occasion, the price of DOGE after his tweet had risen by 15%. At the time of writing, DOGE is worth $0.19 and seems to have already risen 16% in the last 24 hours and 30% in the last 7 days.
