Q&A with Maxwell Step:
Tell us a little bit about yourself
My name is Maxwell and I am 28 years old. I have done art most of my entire life but only started doing pixel art 2 and a half years ago. I also design graphic tees and I work as a product designer. I am located in Montreal, Canada.
When did you release your first NFT?
I minted my first NFT on Rarible titled “OOTD” December 27th, 2020.
Where else have you dropped NFTs?
I have dropped on Rarible, Foundation and Zora.
What was your inspiration for this drop?
The black experience and culture, I wanted to illustrate something that will emote in the most simple way to create a connection through such a static and emotionless medium
How did you start making digital art?
I started when I went to college in 2011, it was my first time ever creating art on a computer because growing up I was not fortunate enough to have access to certain programs or sometimes a computer.
Describe your work in one sentence.
I draw with squares that capture the essence of people.
What opportunities have NFTs opened for you as an artist?
I am able to create a space for myself as an artist that wouldn’t have been accessible to me through traditional means. I have been able to connect more easily with other artists and live off of my art
Any advice for other creators who want to make NFTs?
Do what you love and don’t get caught up in the hype and trends. Make the type of art that you can look back 10 years from now and be proud of.
