The world of NFTs is in a constant state of growth, with numerous businesses and industries trying to incorporate them in one way or another. NFTs have already impacted the art and music industries, with even the most popular figures endorsing them. On the other hand, blockchain gaming is skyrocketing with NFT collectibles, avatars, power-ups, and whatnot. Following the cue, aviation becomes the next big sector to integrate NFTs, thanks to Air Europa introducing the world’s first NFT-based flight tickets.
The recent statements from Air Europa confirm that the aviation company is joining hands with TravelX and Algorand. TravelX is the first-ever blockchain-based distribution protocol for transportation. On the other end, Algorand is one of the most sustainable, carbon-negative blockchain networks. The Air Europa NFTs will be minted on the Algorand blockchain, while TravelX will take care of bridging the physical world of transportation with the blockchain. Together these three firms are hoping to open a new chapter in transportation history.
When asked about this new move, Bernardo Botella, Global Sales Director at Air Europa, jokingly said, “Innovation is in our DNA .”However, this firm is serious about bringing pioneering technologies to the aviation industry. The integration of NFTs will only be the first of the company, followed by many ambitious projects later on. Air Europa expects to improve user experience through this new addition and the collective outlook for good. This innovative move has made Air Europa the first airline ever to use blockchain for “inventory management and distribution.”
Dubbed NFTickets, these NFTs will open several perks for the users apart from giving access to flights. The owners of this NFT will get a chance to board the special Air Europa flight to Miami Beach on November 29, 2022, to attend the art show of the Americas. The firm will release ten NFTickets created by acclaimed artists worldwide for auction every two weeks. The auction would be conducted on the TravelX online platform. The NFTickets will also carry some more perks and access to events before the art show in Miami Beach.
NFT adoption has almost become mainstream in recent years, and industries are increasingly turning towards it to keep their relevance. In this sense, the integration of NFTs for travel solutions by Air Europa is seen as a milestone. This move is likely to get the spotlight in the Future Travel Experience EMEA show scheduled to take place in Dublin from June 7 to 9. The show’s keynote speech titled ‘Cryptos, NFTs and the Metaverse – The Next Growth Frontiers?’ will be delivered by Rohit Talwar, CEO of Fast Future Research. The event will also host giant aviation companies like Lufthansa, and they will discuss leveraging new techs and scaling the industry with new and innovative approaches.
