AMC Theaters, one of the largest movie theater chains in America, recently announced that its mobile app now supports Shiba Inu (SHIB), Dogecoin (DOGE), and other cryptocurrencies for online payments.
In a Twitter post, Adam Aron, Chief Executive Officer of AMC Theaters, confirmed that AMC mobile app is now accepting a broad range of digital currencies through its partnership with Bitpay.
“Exactly as promised, the AMC mobile app for AMC’s U.S. theatres now accepts online payments using Dogecoin, Shiba Inu and other cryptocurrencies, thanks to Bitpay. Also, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Paypal. To do so, you first will need to update to the latest version of our app,” Aron announced on Twitter.
Initially, in November 2021, Aron announced that the company is planning to accept digital assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin for online payments. With the acceptance of Shiba Inu and Dogecoin, the company is facilitating crypto users through a diverse range of digital payment options.
The recent news from AMC Theaters came a few days after Rappi, a Colombian delivery app with operations in several Latin American countries, announced that it has started a pilot program in Mexico to accept crypto payments.
Adoption
Despite a challenging environment related to crypto regulations, the adoption of digital currencies has jumped substantially. Last year, Revolut added Dogecoin amid its rising popularity among retail investors around the world. In March 2021, the Dallas Mavericks, one of the most popular teams in the NBA, confirmed the acceptance of Dogecoin for payments. During the same month, the crypto ATM provider, CoinFlip announced the listing of Dogecoin on its 1,800 ATMs across the US.
Earlier this month, Bitcoin of America, a crypto ATM operator, announced the availability of Shiba Inu across its ATM locations. The company has over 1,800 ATM locations in the US.
