OMG, People… read the AOPP spec before decrying the end of privacy

I understand that words like “automate” and “KYC” are triggering, but it is likely not what you think.

Swiss exchanges require BTC message signing of a proof-of-ownership for a BTC withdraw. Just like the shitcoin air-drops of days gone past, swiss users have to sign a message with their bitcoin address to make a withdraw. AOPP is simply a URI protocol (like LNURL) that automates this message signing form.

Old way:

1. User requests withdraw
2. User is directed to web form to sign and post a message.
3. User copies message to clipboard
4. User goes to the wallet “[Sign Message](https://developer.bitcoin.org/reference/rpc/signmessage.html)” window
5. Wallet asks “Do you want to sign this message” (user ACKs)
6. User pastes signature in the form from #2
7. User presses “Submit” to post message the the forms URI

AOPP is a way to encode 3-7 into a URI so the process turns into:

1. User requests withdraw
2. User is given a link with an AOPP URI
3. User clicks the URI and wakes their wallet
4. Wallet asks “Do you want to sign this message” (user ACKs)
5. Do you want to send this signature to “https://….” (user ACKs)

This is not the end of the internet people… relax. It’s just a bunch of clickbait news sites with the string “coin” and “news” in their name. Highly audited open-source wallets can’t do anything “fishy” without getting skinned alive. Your safe.
