The biggest problem that the poor have, is that they spend an inordinate amount of money on *not looking poor*.
For example, they will buy an expensive IPhone instead of a dirt cheap Android. They also buy expensive bags and overpriced designer clothes. They also almost always drive a much more expensive car than they can afford. I don’t even have car. I simply don’t want one.
That kind of expenses effectively makes them poor.
So, by trying not to *look poor*, these people inevitably *become poor*.
If you resist the temptation, you may *look poor*, but you will not actually *be poor*. If you succumb to the temptation, you will not *look poor* but you will almost surely *be poor*.
There is a simple reason why rich people rarely spend money on *looking rich*: that is often how they became rich.
In this context, I apply a simple rule. Someone who goes through life with an IPhone does not qualify for help, assistance, or charity. I don’t have an IPhone — I wouldn’t want one — and I don’t understand why someone who spends more on his phone should ever qualify for help from someone who spends less.
