Yeah it gets to the point where its hard to tell.

If you have bitcoin between a small number of people, like 1000 decent programmers or so, then for sure someone in that group is a scammer, but on the other hand if most of them are honest …

then for a few of them, bitcoin won’t quite meet their needs with the feature set it has …

so a few of them are going to genuinely want some changes to meet the needs they see… some might want more privacy, some might want some new transaction types, others might want a bugfix (clarity) in how ambiguous situations are sorted out – a kind of security about that, and so forth.

somewhere in the list of proposed changes by a few there will be some scammer changes, some scammer patches…

and how do we as a community figure out whats worth changing for

maybe a bad solution is to give up on changes and just ossify, accept no more changes

I think it’s interesting that Luke-jr was so hard done by people not following BIP8 on Taproot – it seems like there is some new group of devs with different ideas about how to make bitcoin changes (what was it, speedy trial)
