Owning your own private island offers bragging rights like no other. You can enjoy the peace, tranquility, and beauty of nature far from the hustle and bustle of the everyday world.
We found one such island 10 miles west of the Atlantic Ocean, in the middle of a pond!
On the market for $1,295,000, the island in Peabody, MA, is surrounded by Elginwood Pond. And it’s anchored by a beautiful five-bedroom home.
“Everyone in Peabody knows this house and loves it,” says listing agent Jennifer Krisko, of Graystone Properties.
It’s been available for a couple of weeks and buyer interest has been intense, she says.
“The owner had the home under agreement. Less than 24 hours later, he was contacted by the potential buyer that they couldn’t get the financing that they thought they had under their belt,” she continues. “He also received a second all-cash offer on the house, but the offer was too low.”
The charming 4,000-square-foot home was built in 2006 by the current owner, who is a contractor. He didn’t skimp on high-end details.
The elegant living room features a coffered ceiling, French doors, recessed lighting, and decorative molding. The chef’s kitchen boasts top-of-the-line appliances, a wine chiller, granite countertops, and an island with a teak countertop.
The luxe primary suite is on the second level and comes with a fireplace and private balcony. The en suite bathroom features a deep soaking tub and windows that overlook the pond.
The second level has three additional bedrooms and a laundry room.
Other highlights include bamboo flooring, barrel ceilings, and custom windows. The flooring offers radiant heat, which is a huge plus in this chilly part of the country.
For entertaining, there’s a billiard room, bonus room over the garage, gazebo, and patio with a fire pit.
“No detail was overlooked,” Krisko says. “He built the home for himself and now wants to move down South. He put so many details into the property.”
Nature lovers will also swoon over the local fauna, she adds.
“There are swans, blue herons, and mallard ducks that live here year-round. Three weeks ago, I got a picture of a bald eagle there. The owner said he had never seen that before,” says Krisko.
